Here are a few simple tips on how to navigate your local farmers market – let’s make the most of your next visit.
Did someone say farmers market shopping? Count me in!
Anyone who knows me, knows that I love visiting QUARTIER DIX30. It’s Canada’s first ever lifestyle center that covers over 2 million square feet of land. Yes – it’s that big and that impressive. QUARTIER DIX30 is filled with stores, restaurants and even kid-friendly playgrounds. Safe to say that it’s our family’s preferred area for shopping. (Psst: remember this past summer when I attended their first ever Block Party?!)
Lately, we’ve been heading to QUARTIER DIX30 for their Farmers Market, best known as Le Marché Bio Local. For the first time this summer, Le Marché Bio Local has set up at the QUARTIER every Thursday from 3pm to 7pm. In fact, next week (Thursday, September 26, 2019), will be their last Thursday of the season. Here’s to hoping we get more of it next year!
I’m all about supporting local farmers and producers, so shopping at Le Marché Bio Local is definitely a natural fit for our family. Here are a few tips in navigating your local market for a successful day of farmers market shopping!
My Simple Tips on How to Make the Most of Your Farmers Market Shopping Spree
Sometimes, shopping at the farmers market can get overwhelming – especially when there are tons of vendors to choose from. Here are a few things to keep in mind the next time you visit one:
Write a List and Bring it With You
Much like grocery shopping, jot down a list of everything you intend on buying. I’m guilty of purchasing things our family doesn’t necessarily need – and trust me, the temptation is even more present at the farmers market (because everything looks so delicious!). However, it’s also good to keep an open mind – exploring new fruits, vegetables and other foods is the best advantage in shopping fresh and local!
Bring a Bag
Go green and bring your own reusable bag. Plus, reusable bags tend to be more durable, allowing you to carry more!
Talk With Vendors
Get to know the vendors at the stands you shop at most. You’ll learn more about their services and it’s always great to expand your knowledge on local businesses. The more you learn, the more you’ll know how to further support them.
The early bird gets the worm! The Marché Bio Local at QUARTIER DIX30 starts every Thursday at 3pm. Sure enough, I make my way over right at its start time. It’s a great way to beat the crowds and to have first choice of whatever’s being sold for the day.
Go Somewhere You Love – and Make it a Weekly Thing!
Lucky for me, Marché Bio Local has its market open at QUARTIER DIX30 every Thursday. Since our family is always at QUARTIER DIX30 (we live 10 minutes away), the Marché Bio Local is extremely convenient for us to visit.
I’m all about routine, so discovering Marché Bio Local at QUARTIER DIX30 was a definite highlight for our family this summer. The entire operation is run and managed by Geneviève Cousineau – an impressive entrepreneur (who is also a mom!). She’s incredibly passionate about her business, and it’s obvious because the Marché Bio Local is full of love. Shopping through the Marché, you can feel a sense of community and drive from each and every one of its vendors.
