Working from home takes a lot of discipline and planning. Every week, I make sure to write out a thorough schedule to ensure I stay on track. As a WAHM, there are lots of deadlines that I have to respect: both in the business and in the family/social aspect of it all. I do it the “old-fashioned” way by scheduling everything (yes, folks – manually!) in an agenda: ultimately, this is what keeps me focused.
I understand that with such busy days, it’s important to find my “me time.” I’ve tried it all: baths, days at the spa, dining out with friends. While I enjoy these activities on occasion, I longed for something more consistent.
This is when I figured that a daily morning routine could be both productive and indulgent. I’m a morning person as it is, so getting up well before the kiddo and the hubby already comes natural. It is during these house that I squeeze in some time for myself, enjoying moments of self-care and calmness.
Here’s my daily morning routine:
5am: Get Up, Get Ready
That’s right, the alarm goes off at 5 in the morning (and a second one at 5:30, just in case). I try to get up immediately and dress right away. I used to have this bad habit of only getting completely ready if I had to leave the house. However, I realized that my productivity level, especially working from home, was more successful when I actually felt ready to work.
5:15am: My Morning Brew
I start the day with a cup of coffee. I usually wait until the boys are awake to have breakfast. This way, we can enjoy our first meal together as a family.
What’s key is that I actually take the time to enjoy my coffee. I remember working in the city and always taking my cup of Joe to go: racing through crowds to get to the office on time. I try to sit back and relax and appreciate my first coffee of the day.
6am: Facial Care
I have grown up with both eczema and very dry skin. Over the years, my doctors and dermatologists have encouraged consistent moisturizing in order to beat the two.
Starting off with my face, I turn to Dr. Hauschka’s products: a German-based skin-care company that uses only the best ingredients and hugely promotes worldwide sustainability.
I have been an active user of Dr. Hauschka products for over ten years. A friend introduced me to their products in college and immediately, I was hooked. Over the course of my childhood and teenage years, I would get flare-ups and dry patches on my face. It’s not until I tried Dr. Haushka’s Rose Day Cream that I noticed my skin calming down and feeling more vibrant.
Ten years down the road, and a huge part of my morning routine is Dr. Hauschka’s Facial Toner and Rose Day Cream. I love how I can spritz the toner all over my face and then pat it down gently with my hands. For the Rose Day Cream, I usually place a small dollop on my fingers and use a motion of small circles when applying.
It may be a small step, but this no-more-than-5-minute indulgence can really feel like an at-home spa treatment.
…and then I’m off! My day is off to a good start because I take that bit of time for me.
