A New Year, A New Challenge

Challenging myself to 25 books in 2018.

For many, the new year represents a fresh start. For me, it’s a new reading list.

I am so pepped for my 2018 reading list. For a few years, I was partaking in a 50 Book Challenge. Ever year, I constantly succeeded in reaching my literature quota.

Last year, we welcomed Leo into our little family. As we adjusted, so did my reading challenge. Cutting my usual goal in half, I aimed for 25 booksย within the calendar year. And well… I flopped. Turns out, I needed to make adjustments at a constant rate. As a new parent, my routine was ever-changing. Our priorities shifted here and there.

For 2018, I set myself up with the same 25-book goal. Now that we’re more settled in, I’m eager to get acquainted with new titles and toย squeeze in some good, ol’ reading time.

2018 Reading List

Together, we can build this year’s reading list and make it a great one. I know many of you expressed interest in a Fabulous Habits book club. (Trust me, I’m trying my best to make that happen!)

To kick off the year, I’ll be reading The Little Book of Hygge.

In the meantime, I made a quick list of genres and subjects to get into. Throughout the year, I’ll go back to this list and check it off bit-by-bit. Take a look and tell me some of your recommendations!

Also, let me know your thoughts on a Fabulous Habits Book Club. Would you like a live interaction say, on IG or FB? Updated blog posts? Twitter parties? Let me know!

  1. I’m an avid reader. When my kids were growing up, I didn’t get to read as much as I do now. And when I’m vacationing, I read even more. I once read 14 books while on a 3-week Caribbean getaway. I need to add some new books to my 2018 reading list.

  2. This is a different kind of reading challenge list and I love it. There are a couple of books I read in high school that I would love to revisit now and I never thought of reading a book from the year I was born. Interesting, very interesting. Good luck with your challenge.

  3. That is quite the realist! I should make a list like that for myself. I do love to cuddle under some blankets and read. I should make a list for the books I wanna read this year.

  4. Oh wow I love how you have put together your reading challenge list for 2018, it is so specific yet still full of choice! Will be interesting to see what you read for each one.

  5. Reading has been a passion and at one time had a voracious appetite for books. Now pressures of work have restricted the number of books that I manage to read. Some books are read and read multiple times. One of the classics that I keep reading is Charles Dickens David Copperfield.

    • Hi Andrea,

I had never heard of that title but can you tell me a little bit about it? I love hearing different recommendations!

  6. I absolutely love to read, and this was a very timely post because I’ve been looking for a book check-off list to help us pick books each month. Also, I love the idea of the Fabulous Habits book club, and would most definitely participate! Something live on Facebook would be really awesome to go along with it! Happy reading ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Hey Ashley!

Thank you so much for your feedback – I will definitely keep note of it and yes, I’m leaning more towards Facebook live as well. If you have any friends that would like to join the book club, let them know! We can build a really fun community: looking forward to it!

  7. Now this is an attainable new years challenge. I love to read and I think it’s super neat that you took the time to make a reading list and write out what books you want to complete this year. They all seem like fantastic titles and I am going to have to check them out.

  8. I make a reading list too. I make it a list good for every quarter of the year. I love how you made yours. It would let you read a different book for every genre. That’s and awesome idea!

  9. What a totally different book reading list! I love this idea. I’ve been thinking about joining a book club to mix things up but this seems like a more fun way to go.

  10. Reading more is definitely one of the promises that I’ve made to myself this year. I just helps calm me so much at night! I need to check out your recommendation, I’ve been wondering about the word “hygge” and what it really means.

  11. I love this list, it’s kind of hilarious for its randomness. My reading list is whatever I get my hands on, 25 pages a day. It’s really hard to read since I work from home with my kids and never get spare time, so I put it on my to-do list to make sure I read at least a little. ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. I have not ever seen this type of reading list before but I like it! As an avid reader I’m always looking for intriguing new books to read. I want to try your approach soon. Oh, and I’ve added The Little Book Of Hygge to me reading list. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  13. I commend you for trying to read more! I admittedly do not read as much as I would like to (or as much as I should anyway). I may have to adapt this challenge but cut it down to 1 book a month since that is more my speed lol #imaslowreader

  14. I too am an avid reader and writer. I took a break from writing short stories and started back again over my winter break. In 2018, I want to have completed at least 10 short stories.

  15. It’s definitely harder to fit in reading time as a mom, but I love it, so I try to make it one of my priorities. I’ve heard a lot about the current book you’re reading, and I want to check it out. I’m also in a book club, so I can’t wait to share your reading challenge list.

  16. I related to so many of these comments because I love reading but finding the time is hard. I think we spend so much of our time taking in info through reading, especially with all the socials that by the time I get to read something I’m genuinely interested in, I just want to close my eyes and sleep. But I am making (and have made) time to support more poc authors!
