Who’s excited for their big day?! Here are some must-have items for the little learner in your life.
My social media feeds have been filled to the brim with back-to-school tips and photos. Now that I’m a mama, I can totally relate to all the emotions that come with first-day jitters. Sure, Leo is still a toddler and not quite at that stage, but ever since we made the decision to have him start pre-school, this mama has been feeling all of the feelings. All of them.
To celebrate these milestones, I put together a round-up of must-have items for back-to-school. Whether you’re about to begin your journey or are heading for another awesome year, here are some items you just can’t do without:
Must-Have Items for Back-to-School
Snacking Game: Strong
When I was attending elementary school, the one thing I looked forward to was seeing what my mom packed in my lunchbox. I was a serial snacker back then and I’m still one now. It looks like I passed that quality onto Leo.
And you know what? Snacking can totally be healthy and can certainly be delicious.
In comes: FreeYumm bars and cookies. I try to limit the amount of sweets Leo gets, but when he sees me baking desserts for my blog, he goes bananas. It can definitely be a challenge trying to offer him an alternative, but ever since we discovered FreeYumm, he’s been reaching for their bars instead.
FreeYumm snacks are free of the most common allergens found in pre-packaged food. They’re made with real, wholesome ingredients like whole oats, bananas, and raspberries and use only natural sweeteners. I am hesitant-free giving these to Leo and you can bet your lucky stars that they’ll be making their way into his lunchbox. They have become a household staple for us (okay, and don’t tell Leo, but I sneak in a bar for myself every day).
We have been a fan of Robeez footwear since Leo was born. When we received his pre-school supply list, his teacher specifically listed “comfortable shoes.” When I saw the opportunity to purchase new footwear, I was all for it. Naturally, I gravitated towards Robeez and picked up this pair of Liam Soft Soles.
What’s fantastic about Robeez is that they grow with your baby from day one. From Baby Shoes to Mini Shoez, Robeez boasts quality footwear from the newborn stage up until toddlerhood, so they’re perfect for any pre-schooler. I’m inclined to buy them for their durability, quality leather, and elasticized backs. We never lost one shoe because they stay put and never fall off.
When it’s back-to-school season, most parents are hard at work labeling all of the items: All. Of. Them.
I only discovered Stick2Me labels recently, but boy, I am so hooked. Rigid and durable, these labels stick (and stay!) to just about everything. In one packet, you get tons of labels in various shapes and sizes. No need to print out, cut out, and tape individual tags/labels. Stick2Me facilitates the otherwise lengthy process. (Plus, they come in all sorts of cute patterns, so they’re hard to resist!)
There are definitely essential items that make their way to pre-school supply lists. What’s key is finding a good brand that offers all of the essentials. Nuby happens to be one of our favourites.
I first used Nuby’s products when Leo was a wee little newborn. Of course, as a new mama, I was all about cleaning, nesting, and providing baby with a germ-free atmosphere. I turned to Nuby’s pacifier wipes as a part of my diaper bag essential. I was thrilled to discover they had a whole line of kid-friendly products.
Many pre-schools encourage you to bring your own utensils and plates for mealtime. We’ve been using Nuby’s silicone plate since Leo started eating solids. It sticks to nearly any surface and has taught Leo that plates are for serving, not throwing. We will definitely be sending one with him to pre-school.
Nuby’s Fun Feeding utensils are BPA-free and encourage your little ones to eat just like a big kid.
What’s more fun than a lunchbox full of healthy snacks? Lunchbox accessories, of course!
Nuby’s Flip-It Active water bottle is easy to use. With just one push of a button, the lid flips open to expose a soft, silicone straw, which is gentle on the gums and teeth.
Why not have it all in one nifty knick-knack? Nuby’s Snack N’ Sip cup holds both beverage and snack, making it easy to pack lunches on a day-to-day basis.
Another key item on Leo’s list is a toothbrush. His school strives to teach the importance of self-care at an early age, so I turned to Nuby for their toothcare kit. They use an all-natural formula for their toothpaste and you can bet that I did a “happy mama” dance when I found out.
…and of course, we labelled everything. Everything!
