At Quartier DIX30, Canada’s largest lifestyle centre, Lunar New Year festivities are up and running – and our family couldn’t be more excited!

From painting masks to practicing calligraphy – we’re having a blast celebrating the beautiful holiday!
Our family is extremely grateful to live only 10 minutes away from Quartier DIX30. More than just a shopping area, Quartier DIX30 is a lifestyle center with continuous activities, workshops, parties, and parades for the entire family to enjoy.
Last summer, we attended their super impressive block party and also took full advantage of their farmer’s market.
In light of this year’s Lunar New Year celebration, Quartier DIX30 has an impressive list of family-friendly activities to complement the festivities. You can surely bet that our family will be taking part in all of them!
What Lunar New Year Means to Me
Here’s a bit of backstory: we’re a multicultural family. My husband is Swiss-Bolivian, and my parents are from the Philippines.
Filipinos don’t follow the Lunar Calendar. However, I was lucky enough to attend an incredible high school that was full of diversity and culture. Through some of my closest friends, I had the immense pleasure of celebrating Lunar New Year alongside their families.
On my Instagram page, I often talk about the importance of Asian representation. There’s power in numbers, and building a strong community can help raise awareness and educate everyone about all of Asia’s beautiful countries.
Lunar New Year at Quartier DIX30
Lunar New Year activities will be taking place at Quartier DIX30 until February 09, 2020. We love the fact that they’re all family-oriented and gives us a great excuse to connect with our community.
Peking Opera Mask & Calligraphy Workshops
From January 25-26 and February 1, 2, 8 and 9, you and your little ones can paint beautiful Pekin Opera Masks and learn the beautiful art of Chinese calligraphy. Both workshops are set up in DIX30’s Customer Experience Hall (right below the “Théâtre l’Étoile) – this is perfect because the area is surrounded by some of DIX30’s most beloved restaurants, including No. 900, Rouge and Café du Théâtre.
We attended this workshop on its opening day and it was tons of fun! Leo loved learning about Peking Opera Masks and being able to paint one and take it home!
Papercutting
From January 26th to February 9th, 11am to 3pm – learn all about this folk art (that dates back to the second century CE)!
Origami
February 1st to 2nd from 10am to 4pm, origami expert Hideko Sinto will be showing his incredible skill at an open workshop. I am absolutely stoked for this one!
The Lions and Dragon Parade
On February 1st, join the community at The Square in DIX30 for the annual Lions and Dragon Parade. It will take place at 2pm – be sure to come early to score a great spot!
The Cutest Kids Clothes
Traditionally, little ones receive a new outfit to celebrate the new year. Leo and I hopped over to Boutique Mini Moi at Quartier DIX30’s newest complex: LE BLOK.
We put together the cutest outfits, including a button down by J&J Junior and a pocket t-shirt by Miles Baby Brand.
Looking for a wardrobe change? Boutique MINI MOI has the sweetest selections for babies and toddlers. Plus, your little one can enjoy their super fun setup with toys, tables and tents – mamas, you can shop without your kiddos getting bored!

It looks like this was tons of fun! We didn’t do anything for the Lunar New Year but I heard lots about it.
It sounds like they have a lot of fun activities going on for the little ones. What an awesome way to teach kiddos about the lunar new year.
That cutural center and shopping area seems so nice for special events. It is such a great place for the kids to explore.
I was not familiar with the Luna New Year. Thanks for sharing this tradition with me. It looks like you had a great time with your kids!
What some amazing sounding activities you got to do as part of the lunar new year. I always find it so interesting learning about the things different people celebrate.
Those workshops sound so fun. I love the mask you guys made! Checking out the parade would be awesome too.
The activities sound wonderful to get kids crafting and celebrate the Lunar New Year. Calligraphy is always something I wanted to try myself!
Looks for a fun time for the kids. So many great offerings!
Wow that looks like a lot of fun for the whole family. I really would like to visit this place with my nephew, he would love it!
This is such a great way to celebrate the Lunar New Year. I love the creativity and time together doing something fun. Very cool.
Thank you for sharing these family activities. They are very lovely. The clothing is super cute too.
I hope you had a terrific Lunar New Year celebration!!
Thank you for sharing! This looks like such an amazing time and learning experience.
I haven’t looked into any Chinese New Years events going on in the dfw area. I’ll have to look and see if there are any. I think it is a good for kids to experience other cultures and traditions.
Oh i’d love to learn more about this! There are lots of activities to attend.
What I love most is the Chinese calligraphy. I am always fascinated by the artsy hand writing!
That is a fun activity! Love learning something new especially art work.
I loved this post and learning a little more about you. My cousin is half Filipino. She spent some time growing up there. I bet she would love this post!! I’ll have to share it with her.
BTW, I really love the map tent! I didn’t see a link of where to get it-did I miss it?
I really like the mask you made. So creative to let them paint it themselves.
I am saving this for next time! We visited Montréal over the summer (no kids) and told myself I would bring the back the next time! This would be such a fun time to bring them! LOVE Montréal!
The Lunar New Year looks like it’d be educational and fun for both the kiddo and me. It’ll count toward our homeschooling, too.
