Key Pieces to Have in Your Toddler’s Wardrobe

…because wardrobe variety is important at any age.

All thanks to Children's Place, I've put together the most varied toddler's wardrobe ever! From formal to sporty... Leo now has a way to mix-and-match his outfits. #mystylePLACE

When I was preparing for Leo’s arrival, I wish I had purchased more clothes in the 12+ months category. When you’re expecting, you’re often gifted with heaps of onesies in newborn sizes. While they are mighty cute, mothers often find themselves with countless unworn garments ranging in the 0-to-3 month size.

(I encourage you to keep this in mind for the next baby shower you’ll be attending.)

Now that Leo has entered the very early stages of toddlerhood, I’m putting together outfits with a little more thought. Infants are rather easy to dress: outfits comprising of onesies, cotton pants, and soft-soled shoes are the way to go. But now, Leo is up and about: he’s playing, crawling, and learning to walk (!!!). I aim to mix-and-match his clothes, going for a capsule-style wardrobe (toddler-style).

Recently, I checked out The Children’s Place to shop their newest collections. I love how most of their offerings are sold in sets: incredibly convenient yet still perfect for mix-and-matching. Not to mention, their newest Baby Bundles line makes shopping for your little ones easy, budget-friendly, and super fashionable. Buying only a handful of items (especially from Baby Bundles), I managed to complete a good chunk of Leo’s springtime ensembles.

Lounging Around
Okay, so Leo is still a little tyke… and yeah, there’s a lot of lounging around at home (and mama cannot complain!). This outfit is exactly what we needed for our day-to-day routine. Straight from the Baby Bundles line, this set came complete with a zip-up hoodie, 2 onesies (one long-sleeve and one short-sleeve), and comfy loungewear pants. Perfect for playing and snuggling with mommy!

When Leo’s accompanying me to my (endless) errands, we’ve got to stay casual and cool. This outfit screams comfy yet, stylish… leaving us looking and feeling our best (and ready for an IG photo-opp).

Now that warmer weather has bestowed my neck of the woods, we’re going into full-swing with sun-friendly outfits. This shorts-and-button-down combo is too adorable for words. Plus, it’ll be great to pack for our upcoming summer vacation.

Sporty and Spunky
Oh, so you have a toddler? So you’re used to running around, sweating, and attending play-dates alongside your little munchkin? Then you’ve got to add a stylish tracksuit to your toddler’s wardrobe. It’s key for layering and staying comfy while being active.

Formal
Do you ever feel like your kids have more social gatherings than yourself? I swear, birthday parties and play dates take over most of our weekend plans. Make sure your little one is looking dapper with some formal-wear. I picked out this suspenders-and-pants set and can’t wait for my little man to wear it on Easter.

Onesies
The basic bodysuit from the Baby Bundles collection is key to have in your toddler’s wardrobe. Think of it as your basic tank or white tee. It’s convenient to wear under cardigans and amazing for layering. (You know, on the coldest winter days and your child’s shirt lifts up as you carry him?) Well, with these, no more exposed, cold skin – yay! Trust me, they’re totally a must-have.

  1. AHHH! He is so cute! I love these options. His little outfits are so adorable. Posts like this make me wish my kids were still little.

  2. I always prided myself in buying awesome, on trend clothes for my boys. I think it IS important for them to be super cute and look their best.

  3. It is so hard to plan ahead when it comes to kids and baby clothes they are always growing. If you get it their size they are out of it in a month so you need everything big. He is so cute in his shorts and other outfits.

  4. I totally agree with everything that you mentioned. It’s really important to have these key pieces so that you don’t have to worry about getting them when the situation calls for it.

  5. Your son is a great model. I love the casual clothing the best, because as moms, we know the wear and tear they put on them. It made me reminisce about those days when my daughter was little. She’s almost nine, but I’ve still saved some of her tiny little outfits from when she was one.

  6. These are lovely pieces to have in your child’s wardrobe. I agree, a lot of people will give out clothes but it’s important to make sure to invest on these pieces.

  7. I love that you mentioned formal wear. It’s not something that we usually buy especially since they outgrow it fast, but it’s good to have one handy in case you’re going to somewhere that requires that kind of outfit.

  8. I can say, I am a very picky mom when it comes to my children’s wardrobe. I have 2 kids, 12-year old son and 4-year old daughter. I may not choose a very expensive one but I see to it that their wardrobe would be nice and comfortable.

  9. Omgosh he is the most adorable thing ever. I remember those days. My kids always had to be comfy. I always carefully picked out their outfits. I kept a lot of them too. Passing this on to some of my friends who are new parents.

  10. I remember saving {almost, as far as The Internet knows} every piece of clothing from my first boy for my second boy. Imagine my disappointment when my second spurted right past certain sizes into off-season other sizes after I may, or may not have, dedicated the guest bedroom closet to all these first born clothes!
I now share the wealth among friends and only save the precious clothes. Children’s Place clothing has really stood the test!

  11. This is so true. I have 5 kids…..though all mine are grown, I remember having so many onesies but never enough church outfits or play outfits. I had enough one-pieces and PJs to last them for their lifetime. And girls always seemed to be more fun to buy for than boys. Toddlers need a good jacket and sweater too….I never knew that the first time around.

  12. Oh my gosh, the collage of photos are too cute, I can’t deal with how adorable this little fella is. I can understand it being easy to dress infants because they don’t require much styling. Toddlers get introduced to more choices and styling options and possible need more time to get ready in the morning.

  13. Well I am going to be honest, my kids have always been better dressed than me! ha!! Children’s Place has some great items and we always buy my sons jeans from them. They fit him well and last the longest!! Great information for parents.

  14. This post is brilliant!! I have key pieces in my wardrobe, but funny enough I never thought about key pieces in my toddler’s wardrobe! I’m only starting to now, now that they’re getting older!
