Dust bunnies, this means war! Here’s how our family keeps things tidy with our super easy house cleaning schedule.
…because nothing beats a comfy, cozy, clean home.
I have always been a little obsessive when it comes to cleanliness. My locker in high school, for instance, was always in immaculate condition. Of course, I’m no different when it comes to our home. I cringe when our beds aren’t made in the morning; dishes always have to be put away at the end of the day.
Joe, on the other hand, is a bit on the messier side (which he totally admits). As we started to build our family, we knew that we had to find a middle ground for our cleaning habits. So together, we came up with an easy house cleaning schedule that we follow on the daily. It keeps me sane and is easy for Joe (and even Leo!) to follow along.
Here’s How Our Family Maintains an Easy House Cleaning Schedule
We break down tasks on a daily and monthly program. The reason why we skip the weekly tasks is because our daily chores are so efficient, that weekly clean-ups are hardly necessary.
My rule of thumb is: do things on the daily, so that monthly deep cleans aren’t a horrendous task. With day-to-day maintenance, there’s less buildup, less grime and less dust. Overall, rooms are tidier because of our continuous chores.
Daily Kitchen Tasks
Dishes are washed as we go: whether we load the dishwasher or handwash the more delicate stuff – we don’t let anything pile up.
After every meal we wipe down countertops and the sink. This dust pan & brush set may be small but it does a mighty large job! It gets all the crumbs off of our dining table and the dust pan allows me to throw it all out immediately (rather than letting the crumbs fall on the floor, forcing me to sweep up or vacuum).
Wipe down the stove to avoid any buildup. Our glass top stove is a breeze to clean but you can see food stains very easily. Cleaning it regularly keeps it looking shiny and new.
Clean and wash key floor areas at the end of the day. I don’t expect my family to heavily mop my floors on the daily, but maintenance is key. The dining area and the floor beneath our kitchen island (where I cook) is always swept up and cleaned by the end of the day. This Libman Microfiber Dust Mop is exactly what we need for this task. It’s super effective and I love that the cleaning pad is machine washable and reusable.
Daily Bathroom Tasks
Keep things fresh by replacing towels on the daily.
Wipe down countertops and sink using a soft yet, effective all-purpose sponge.
Complete toilet paper check/refill every morning.
Daily Bedroom Tasks
Make the bed as soon as you get ready in the morning.
Any dirty clothes go into the hamper immediately.
Daily Living Room Tasks
Tidy-up sofa at the end of the day.
Sweep and clean floors. This Microfiber Wet and Dry Mop does the trick – especially on our hardwood floors. Remember, it’s all about maintenance and continuous cleaning assures me that our monthly deep cleans will be quick and easy.
Wash floors all throughout the house. We usually turn to our Tornado Mop for this – it’s heavy duty and boasts an extra sturdy steel handle.
Deep clean countertops by removing all small appliances and giving them a good wipedown.
Our toilet scrubdown is my least desirable task but it has to get down! We clean the toilet and bathtub every month.
Clean all windows and glass in the house.
