I’m rounding up the best chick lit books to take with you on the beach, on the road and for your upcoming adventure.

Heading on vacation? Time to get reading!
I’m always planning my next vacation. If you’re a continuous reader of this blog (by the way, thank you!) then you’ll know that our family absolutely adores travelling. When we hit the road, I always make sure to pack a couple of novels because in my opinion, there’s nothing more relaxing than getting lost in a good book. It also helps me fulfill the reading challenge that I take part in every year.
When it comes to vacation reading, I’m all about that “chick lit” vibe. I love a good, light-hearted read while I’m away, so I decided to round-up the best in chick-lit literature.
Here are some of my recommendations:
The Best Chick Lit Books for Your Upcoming Vacation
These are some of the best chick lit books that I’ve come across. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! You may have even already read some of these titles but there’s nothing wrong with revisiting a good story (or two!).
1. Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin
Something Borrowed was actually one of the first chick lit books I ever picked up. If you’re into love triangles, then this a must-read. The highly-acclaimed novel marked author, Emily Giffin, on the map.
Rachel White is a well-rounded woman: an impressive Manhattan lawyer who excelled in school and was always the best sidekick to her outgoing bestie, Darcy. When Rachel realizes that Darcy’s fiancé shares romantic feelings with her, things spiral out of control. Rachel must face the ultimate choice between true love or a lifelong friendship.
2. Fitness Junkie by Lucy Sykes & Jo Piazza
I have always been a fan of Lucy Sykes and Jo Piazza. Together, they’re an impressive force, creating and writing some of the best reads I have ever come across.
In one of their most recent books, Fitness Junkie, their leading lady, Janey Sweet, is written off her own business due to her recent weight gain (Yikes – I know, right?!). From there, things spiral out of control and Janey throws herself into the challenging expectations of the modern fitness world (which includes overpriced smoothies and clay-eating, of course).
Psst: I have a more thorough review of the book here, since it was the first book I picked up this year.
3. Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling
If I could choose my next bff, then it would obviously be Mindy Kaling. An impressive comedian, actress, writer executive producer and director, she is best known for her role as Mindy Lahiri on her highly-acclaimed series, The Mindy Project.
If you’re already familiar with her work, then Why Not Me should be a book to check out. Reading through her pages, you’ll feel it was as if Mindy was talking directly to you. It’s definitely a must-read and perfect for your upcoming vacation. I reviewed it back in 2015, the year of its debut, and you can check it out here.
4. Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
Kinsella is queen bee of chick lit books so I couldn’t help but add her debut novel, Confessions of a Shopaholic on this list (initially published as The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic). You may be familiar with the blockbuster film starring Isla Fisher. If you loved it, then the book should your next read (because the movie was inspired from it).
5. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
Surprisingly, I have yet to read something by Jojo Moyes but Me Before You is one that I have scribbled on my “to read” list. Highly acclaimed, this “heartbreakingly romantic novel” comes in highly recommended by so many of my friends.
6. I Owe You One by Sophie Kinsella
Here’s another book by queen-chick-lit-bee, Sophie Kinsella. I dove into this novel on our recent trip to Naples, Florida and I was blown away. I just knew that Kinsella would offer the perfect poolside read and this is one you won’t want to miss.
7. Tara Road by Maeve Binchy
I first read Tara Road back in high school. It was listed on our annual summer reading list and while I was hesitant in starting it, I was glad that I took the plunge. A total page-turner, Tara Road tells the tale of two very different women who decide to switch lives. It’s emotional, touching and beautifully-written. It was my first Binchy book and from that point, it got me hooked on her other novels.
8. Our Turn by Kristine Stewart
Looking for something a little more serious? I love biographies and Kristine Stewart’s Our Turn is absolutely empowering. In the book, she talks about her numerous accomplishments (which includes being the first woman and the youngest person to ever head the CBC), and everything she writes is incredibly inspiring.
9. Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan
Kevin Kwan is an incredible force, opening up Asian American representation in Hollywood with his hit 2018 film, Crazy Rich Asians. And guess what? It was a book series first! I actually own the first edition of the book, which is a hardcover wrapped in a sparkly gold book sleeve. I fell in love with the books as soon as they were published, so naturally, I was thrilled when I learned that they were also hitting the silver screen.
A beautiful love story that intertwines culture and family challenges, this is a series you won’t want to skip. This book will always have a special place in my heart.
10. Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I emerged so much into this story that I made myself believe The Six was an actual band. I classify this book as fictional biography and I just know you’ll get lost in its pages, too.
11. The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
This is another one I haven’t yet read – and I’m not exactly sure why! I’ve heard so many great things about it, so I’ll definitely be adding the title to my “to read” list. However, it is highly-acclaimed and comes up as a popular read on most of my favorite reading websites.
12. I’ll Drink to That by Betty Halbreich
Fashionistas, unite! This page turner is all about Bergdorf Goodman’s legendary personal shopper, Betty Halbreich. Be warned, after reading this remarkable tale, you’ll be booking your next trip to NYC – it’ll inspire the fashion-fiend in you, I swear!
I hope you enjoy these list of book recommendations. Are there any here that you’ve already read? What are your thoughts on them?
