5 Important Quotes to Keep You From Feeling Mom Guilt

It’s Only Normal

“The very fact that you worry about being a good mom means that you already are one.” – Jodi Picoult

Never put yourself down: you are enough. Making mistakes and (sometimes) losing control of anything – the mess, your emotions, your thoughts – is only normal. In fact, it’s the whole (beautiful) part of being human. We are constantly changing – life is a learning experience.

You Can’t Do It All

“It’s not about how much you do, but how much love you put into what you do that counts.” – Mother Teresa

We can’t clean the house and keep it perfect all the time. Your home is made for living. It won’t always be spotless – and that’s okay.

The love you apply in everything: your home cooked meal, the laundry you (struggle to) do, the career you work so hard for – these are all accomplishments. Don’t forget that.

Be There for Each Other

“As moms, we are in it together – raising the future. We are a tribe of future makers. So let’s support each other.” – Marissa Hermer

Before you judge another parent, remember how someone else always has their own story. Put yourself in their shoes.

There is power in numbers! Let’s be there for each other instead of against one another.

No One is Perfect

“There’s no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one.” – Jill Churchill

All of your efforts – they won’t go unnoticed. Focus on the present and remember that no one is perfect. What you’re doing is absolutely amazing.

And the wise words of Kristen Bell…

“And when I look down, even now, at the extra skin on my belly, it’s a reminder that I’ve done something spectacular. It’s a reminder that I’m a superhero. And I’m proud of it.” – Kristen Bell

Mamas – how do you deal with mom guilt? What do you all do to take care of yourselves?

  1. I like that quote about if your already worrying about being a good mom your already one. We are way to hard on ourselves.

  2. Great quotes! I think most moms feel guilty every now and then, but it’s important to remember (and remind one another) that we are all doing the best we can.

  3. Mom guilt can be really tough! These are great reminders. My “babies” range from 18 to 31 years old. There have been times when I’ve blamed myself for their problems, but amazingly, they never do.

  4. These are great quotes. I wish I would have read them 20 years ago when I was a young Mom. I drove myself into the ground trying to do it all. I tried to be the perfect Mom and wife and it was really hard. I am so glad I eventually gave myself a break.

  5. I agree, nobody is perfect. Mom or not, we all make mistakes. Don’t be too hard on yourself, just enjoy every moment of motherhood.

  6. I’m terrible for having mum guilt. I always feel like I’m doing something wrong. You’ve given me a little bit of hope that I may be doing something right 🙂
