Silicone Beauty Sponge

Tested and reviewed: here are our first impressions on the Silicone Beauty Sponge. The silicone beauty sponge offers a new way to apply foundation.

I have a weak spot for binge-watching beauty gurus on YouTube. A couple of my favorites include Morgan from The Beauty Breakdown and Nikkie from NikkieTutorials. I can watch them all day. Perhaps it’s the way they flawlessly apply foundation, create the perfect lip, and blend in their eyeshadows… whatever it may be, it is all so jaw-dropping. I also love it when they review trending beauty products. I love seeing their first-hand experience with a product I’m contemplating purchasing.

Lucky for me, I got my hands on a couple of generic-branded silicone sponges. The Silicone Beauty Sponge rose to fame because of how little product it “drank up” compared to competing makeup sponges and brushes.

I was giddy with joy when I received mine. I was so eager to try them that I even went out and purchased a new bottle of my go-to Bobbi Brown foundation. Upon trial, here were my initial thoughts:

Pros

  • A lot less product is required (compared to using makeup sponges and brushes)
  • Easy to clean – love the fact that this can be wiped dry, unlike sponges that need to be aired out. Less room for breeding bacteria!
  • Smooth on the face – no abrasiveness on my sensitive skin

Cons

  • Takes more time to blend – I had a more difficult time getting my foundation to set on my skin and not look so cakey
  • Shape is not-so angle friendly – harder to get in smaller areas like creases or just underneath the corner of my eye

Overall, the silicone beauty sponge is something I would recommend. I would, however, encourage people to be extremely patient with it. Application may take some getting used to. Once you get the right blending technique, you’ll find that its pros heavily outweigh its cons. I find that softly dabbing it onto your skin will help with build-up and coverage.

  1. It’s hard to image using a silicone sponge to apply foundation. I’ll definitely have to try it out. My daughter is a makeup artist and she teases me about how much I love my Lancome foundation brush that I’ve used for years. I’ve got to try the silicone sponge to prove that I can try new tricks. 🙂

  2. Glad you mentioned being patient. I am the type of person to throw in the towel quickly with stuff like this 🙂

  3. I have never seen these or even heard of them. But it looks like you like them so I definitely have to check into them. Maybe they would work better than some of the other stuff I have.

  4. This is the first time I’ve come across a silicone beauty sponge. I looks like a great make up tool, mainly for the fact that it is easy to clean and not prone to bacterial growth. Thanks for your honest review!

  5. I keep hearing great things about these silicone sponges. They look like they would be pretty easy to use and easy to clean.

  6. Okay this is something totally new to me. Never used this type of applicator. Using sponges well they get dirty and yucky and always have to be replaced.

  7. I love to try new products and this one looks really cool to me. I confess, the older I get, the less make up I prefer to wear since my skin keeps changing. I have never tried a silicone beauty sponge but I will now. My daughter’s may find one in their Easter baskets this year.

  8. I have never used a sponge to apply make up. I know that our daughter uses them. I’ll have to show her these. They look really nice.

  9. I just learned about a new product that I did not know existed. I wonder if you cut it at an angle if it would be better to get those hard to reach places better and not crease.

  10. I’ve been debating whether or not I could try one of these. I’m one of those bad people who still uses their fingers haha! I know I shouldn’t, but it’s so convenient.

  11. What a neat idea for makeup sponges. I have not seen these before. I think it is great idea, but I would be worried about the evenness.
