Easy Make-Ahead Breakfast

I love creating meals ahead of time. I prefer to spend time with my kiddos sitting down at the table than making the food while they rush out the door.

This recipe is perfect any time of year. It’s great for back to school or even those lazy mornings where you just don’t want to cook. My kids love this recipe as much as they like my chocolate chip oatmeal muffins or Nutella crepes.

The idea behind my Almond Overnight Oats is that the prep work is all done the night before. This gives you a chance to a) sleep-in b) enjoy a hassle-free, healthy breakfast with the kiddos or, c) all of the above.

Here’s what you’ll need from the store. The exact amounts are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Kitchen Tools Needed:

Ingredients Needed:

  • Oats – Use steel-cut for the best results. If you are pressed for time, you can also use quick-oats, but they will have a softer texture.
  • Milk – I used almond milk because it has the best taste. You can use your favorite kind of milk.
  • Yogurt – Greek yogurt is thicker and gives this recipe a better texture. If you use honey in your oats, use unsweetened yogurt. If you want to use a flavored or sweetened type of yogurt, skip the honey, or else it will taste too sweet.
  • Almonds – you only need them for the garnish. Use whole, sliced, or chopped.

Overnight Oats Tips

This is a very simple recipe and has become of my go-to’s! If you have any questions about it, please leave them in the comments.

The Best Container For Overnight Oats

Any airtight container with a lid will work. My favorite is a small mason jar. I like the tight seal the lid provides, and I can shake it before I eat it. Plus, it makes clean-up really easy too.

Overnight Oats Texture

Overnight oats will have a texture that resembles cooked oatmeal. It might also taste like a thick smoothie, depending on how much milk you used.

Do You Eat Overnight Oats Hot or Cold?

This is completely up to you. Some people like to heat up their overnight oats because they prefer to eat their oatmeal hot. Others like the cold oatmeal. It just depends on your taste.

Other Almond Overnight Oats Ideas

It’s really simple to make changes to this recipe. Use pecans instead of almonds. Drizzle maple syrup on top with some cinnamon instead of honey. It’s a fantastic recipe that is easy to customize.
